Rebranded as Crooked Water Golf Club (Minnetrista, Minnesota), Jay Blasi—best known for his work on Chambers Bay (University Place, WA) and, more recently, the redesign of Poppy Ridge Golf Course (Livermore, CA)—will oversee the redesign of the former Burl Oaks Golf Club, and a new 9-hole short course.

“Excitement is building as our club enters a new chapter,” says Steve David, General Manager and Director of Golf at Crooked Water Golf Club. “Jay Blasi is elevating the golf experience with a modern redesign and the addition of a short course.”

Redesigning all greens, expanding fairways, removing trees and using 20 acres of previously unused land, Blasi said, “When it is completed, the course will be completely reworked—no one will recognize it from what was previously there.”

Having helped over 100 clubs with their logos and branding over the past 25 years, Lee Wybranski Art & Design drew from Dakota culture, with “Minnetrista” translating to “Crooked Water” and The Kingfisher—a revered symbol in Dakota culture and native to the area—set to serve as the club’s logo.

“Crooked Water accomplishes a few things at once,” says Wybranski. “First, water reflects life and change, and the club is certainly going through a period of renewal. At the same time, we are able to connect to the history of the region and the longstanding connection to the land. Finally, ‘Crooked Water’ is a descriptive name which gave clear and direct inspiration for the club’s distinctive new brand.”
