Opening in late 2026, The Gate Golf Club will be Naples’ first non-profit public golf destination. Featuring a regulation-length 9-hole course totaling 3,369 yards, designed by Peter Jacobsen, a full-length illuminated practice range, and a 48,500-square-foot putting green with an 18-hole putting course, The Gate Golf Club will also be home to First Tee – Naples/Collier, a program dedicated to empowering youth through the game of golf.
"The Gate is envisioned as a welcoming golf recreation destination and community space. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, it was created to expand access to the game for all to enjoy,” said Kristina Schmieding, President of The Gate Golf Club.
As private golf continues to boom in South Florida, The Gate Golf Club offers a striking contrast, providing added meaning for those involved.
"From the Board’s perspective, The Gate is more than a golf course. It’s a place for the community to come together and helps sustain the future of the game. Through a public-nonprofit partnership, we are proud to deliver a course that strengthens the local golf ecosystem and reflects the needs of the community," said Schmieding.
A Par-35, Peter Jacobsen said, "The opportunities we found within the natural landscape at The Gate Golf Club give the holes a simple elegance with a traditional feel. This simplicity provides a sense of place where one can feel at home and have fun playing golf. I love this about The Gate.”
Featuring multiple tee options, allowing players to choose yardages and angles that suit their abilities, including a proposed “Junior Tee” at 1269 yards, Jacobsen said, “It was imperative to build multiple tee locations to appeal to all levels of players.”
Though the course isn't yet open, the Par-4 8th is already drawing interest. Jacobsen wouldn’t call it his favorite, but he noted, “The 8th Hole is a true risk/reward hole. It’s a short Par-4, potentially drivable for longer hitters, that’ll provide great excitement.”
